Bluefield, West. Virginia, Historical Profile (1919)


Bluefield, W. Va., founded in 1838 and incorporated in 1893, is in Mercer County, at the extreme southern end of the state, on the Norfolk & Western Railroad. The city is the home of a state normal, and has a fine Federal building and two sanitariums. There are railroad shops and important soft coal mining interests. It is governed on the commission plan. Population, 1910, 11,118.
