Dumbartonshire
Dumbartonshire or Dunbartonshire is a former county in W central Scotland. Under the Local Government Act of 1973, the county of Dumbartonshire (or Dumbarton) became (1975) part of the new Strathclyde region. In the local government reorganization of 1996, Strathclyde was dissolved and the council areas of West and East Dunbartonshire were created in part from portions of the former county.
